purchasing with a purpose

At the heart of The Tabitha Shop is giving. This little shop's namesake is after a woman who used handmade to give other women in her community dignity, hope and love. It's for this reason that I donate a portion of the purchase price towards empowering women in third world countries to start their own businesses or sharpen skills for employment.

When I started The Tabitha Shop, each item went towards a different cause. So, mugs' donations would go towards clean water; necklaces towards fighting human trafficking. It scratched my itch to help out with all the causes, but when it came time to donate, after processing fees, it yielded a minimal donation. After streamlining not only my products, but also my donations, I focused my attention on one group, women in third world countries, in order to make a more meaningful financial impact.

What does this mean? It means that 10% of the purchase price is donated to an organization called Compassion International, a faith-based and phenomenal group of men and women releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name. An important aspect of this poverty-destroying work is helping the children's mothers generate income for their families. That's where your donations go.

So, if you purchase one stationery set, $1.20 will be donated to Compassion. If you purchase 10 sets, then $12 will be donated, and so on!

Why do I even mention this? Because authenticity and transparency is valuable, especially when working with nonprofits and donations. I want my customers to know that they are making an impact with their purchase.

We can make a difference, even through our consumerism!
